Philip Plisson's photo report in the AzoresIn September 2005, Philip was invited by the Azores' tourism regional department to promote the Archipelago. During this stay, which is the first of several others, Philip has gone whaling in the waters of Faial Island, near Horta. A mere demonstration de know-how since whaling is forbiden since 1987. Yet whaling made Horta's prosperity. The Azores' harpooners were appreciated for their courage and skill by the american ships' managers. The issues of regatta have replaced those of fishing. Three whalers of Horta Yacht Club makes a demonstration of speed and elegance. The boat, guided by a look-out ashore, sailed towards the fishing spot, than unsteped the mast to row and follow the whales to harpoon them.
