Philip Plisson's photo report : Marblehead, US North-East coastMarblehead is a town located north of Boston, in the Bay of Massachusetts. Established by english settlers coming from Salem, Marblehead flourished thanks to fishing and overseas trade. In 1760, Marblehead was the sixth biggest town in the colonies. Numerous buildings and georgian houses painted in delicate colours are the testimony of this golden age. Since the end of the 19th century, Marblehead has become a reknown sea resort and the capital of yachting. The Boston Yacht Club, established in Marblehead in 1866 is one of the oldest in the USA. Marblehead light was built in 1895 beside the first one, when the latter was obscured by the surrounding houses. Composed of eight cast-iron pilings, it is the only American lighthouse of this type on the coast.
