 International Photo Festival of Montier-en-Der

On the 18th, 19th and 20th November 2005, The International Photo Festival of Montier-en-Der, in North of France, presents more than 45 photo exhibitions.

A unique photo exhibition

"Le Tsunami en Indonésie - 220 000 morts - un peintre de la marine témoigne, Philip Plisson (Tsunami in Indonesia - 220,000 dead - Philip Plisson painter of the Navy testifies)

This year, Pascal Briard, Communication Manager of Canon Communication & Image France partner of the Festival, whished to recall the Tsunami as a natural catastrophy. He asked Philip to testify what he has seen in the region of Aceh, in Indonesia, where he spent 2 weeks in early January 2005. Thanks to this initiative, these images would not have been seen by the public.

Philip says : "To act as a witness is the essential role, mission and duty of an Official Painter of the Marine. That is why, on Janaury 7th, when the SIRPA asked if I would join the "Jeanne" in Sri-Lanka, in the company of Jean-François Deniau, I answered "present".
After having flown over 400 kilometres of coastline in the province of Aceh, between Banda Aceh and Meulaboh, I understood that within at least a one kilometre wide band from the coast inland, there were  just a few living souls and the dead. As the wave left it had sucked up everything with it : trees, what was left of the houses and the wounded.
During the first few days the Indonesian government only allowed us to fly over the zone, and not to touch down. As of January 17th we were able to heliport food and water to the villages which had received no help whatsoever since the 26th December.
The most impressive image is the village near Banda Aceh, where the sole building still standing is the Mosque : no trace of life, no trace of the past, the sea was transformed into a gigantic hoover. "

Nous vous présentons dans le diaporama ci-dessous quelques uns des 50 grands tirages exposés au format 1,60m sur 1,20m au cours de cette exposition.

Among the photo exhibitions, one can notice the presence of photographers partners of Editions Pêcheur d'images :

- Steve Bloom, "Animals" Exhibition

- Jean-Christophe Moudens et Patrice Labarbe, Yves Rocher exhibition "Grandeur nature, les Alpes et les Pyrénées".
