Philip Plisson's photo report : Backwaters in IndiaLast winter, Philip Plisson traveled in India and took a keen interest to the Backwaters in India within the making of his next book, the second part of The Sea : "La Mer, l'avenir de la terre" (The Sea, the future of the earth). In Southern India, on the Kerala coast, Backwaters are lagoons and lakes filled with brackish waters. Lagoons were formed by the action of the waves and the currents creating a barrier of islets at the mouth of coastal rivers. Kochi harbour - former Cochin - is located at the meeting point of Lake Vembanad and Oman Sea. At the entry of the harbour, chinese nets are swinging, like giant spider web dancing in the breeze. These chinese nets are sorts of landing nets. They are used when the tide is high and they need four men to handle their counterweight system. Philip enjoyed the simplicity, the silence, the welcome, in a word the serenity of this place and its inhabitants. Photos of Philip Plisson and Christophe Le Potier.
