2006 begins amid much fanfare for Philip who accompanied Abeille Bourbon for its first rescue operations in bad weather conditions...On the morning of 31 December 2005, the Abeille Bourbon leaves the Stiff Bay leeward of the Isle of Ouessant and travels on a barge 100 meters long, adrift in the Ouessant lane since 4.00 a.m. For the brand new tugboat in charge of helping the ships to navigate safely off Brittany, it is the first sortie in such weather conditions : 40 knots, to 50 knots gusts of wind. Abeille Bourbon will have to face waves from 10 to 15 meter high, towing the barge back to Brest, by night, while all the French celebrate the new year... Abeille Bourbon's team paies tribute to Philip's pilot It was the last sortie of the helicopter's pilot, Daniel Manoury, known as Manou, the "second eye of Philip" during 16 years, who retires after a long career of pilot, with 13,000 hours flying time.
